Having known what would happen in the elections after the Supreme Court moved to recognize Corporations as individuals, able to contribute unchecked to political campaigns, I was proven correct.
The usual follow up remark made to me in response to this fact seems to be, "Well the unions do it."
What the person shows is ignorance to the fact that the unions are within our country, and, that they do not have the clout the corporations do have, nor do they have unlimited funds as corporations do. Apparently they also are ignorant of the fact that corporations are international entities, composed of inidividuals from other parts of the world who now have an open door of great influence on the very government of our country. Now other countries have a finger on the very controls of our "Democracy," because simply by being members of a corporation that has an office in the U.S., they have unlimited influence.
Then the loophole in campaign finance which was opened recently, allows certain non profits to give unlimited amounts of money with no means of identifying those contributing all the money magically appeared. The so called patriotic groups grew quickly, groups headed by shadows known or suspected to be Carl Rove and his friends from the Bush era, who made their impact on Americans through misleading, often hateful advertising, greedily snapped up by national media corporations having no ethics.
Americans, feeling the pinch of the economy which is beginning to slowly recover,(but not quickly enough to suit most), forget that it took eight years to dig the hole created by a war that had no reason to be fought except the lies of that administration, the deregulation of checks on Wall Street, the unbridled favoritism for oil and gas to drill unimpeded by concern for clean water, air and land. by Cheney and his henchmen.
Then, as a gift to the mega rich, someone planted in Bush's brain the idea that he give these mega rich tax breaks.
These very tax breaks now are the object of greed for the Republicans as they try to make their expiration labled as tax increases. They continually scream this on the airwaves of Fox, owner Rupert Murdock who should beat the title "traitor." Watch, Boehner, now Speaker of the House and his stooges will win and keep the tax cuts for the rich. Those tax cuts will be extended and we will have to BORROW more money from China to pay for them. The Republicans continue to say they want to cut spending. And, Americans will continue to believe them and vote against themselves as they did in this election, riled up by the Teabaggers who actually are funded by the billionaire Koch Brothers, who should bear the title Greedy tratiors. Go figure!
